I’ve been running into a lot of amazing photographs shot by Michael so I thought I would get to know him a little deeper and introduce his art to the world. He’s a very inspiring person.

Nothing can prevent your picture from coming into concrete form except the same power which gave it birth – yourself.” – Genevieve Behrend
Who/or what inspires you?
- What inspires me is my mother and father, Watching them work hard to provide for us when we were kids and still working hard till this day. I cant see anyone in a greater way other than my mother and father.
What’s your story? where are you from?
- I’m a person from lower/middle class who seen it all and been through it all, from being raised in Los Angeles, (Compton, 68th street) to residing now in Fontana Ca, I’ve came from almost making my life with another career and quickly vanished. Being dragged through the mud to loving life now, my life has been through more than being able to fit in this interview.
What brought you to photography and how did you get where you are now?
- A rough time in my life where i felt like everything and everyone around me had failed and gave up on me, so one day i picked up my casio 5mp digital camera and started taking photos to express what i felt… and being able to view things in a different way a few months later i decided to invest every penny i had and also with the help of my mother to purchase my first camera. after that i move to Las Vegas where i worked and photography was being just left to the side because i wasnt given any opportunities to show my ability even if i was new and didnt know anything about working a DSLR. So thanks to Vita and Irma my first 2 models who gave me a chance to take their photos and ran with it from there in late 08 early 09 i believe. To get where i am now is just dedication and a lot of hard work which includes sleepless nights and a lot of reading online and DIY projects; i am a self-taught photographer and at the moment even thought im doing what i love im no where were i want to be with it. 2yrs in im still new and have a lot to work on.
What was the hardest part in this field?
- The hardest thing i would say is getting that respect and chance to prove what you are capable of, a lot of people are always low balling you or making you feel like your nothing. So many people with Egos ! Other than that it really doesnt matter those are just things ive seen and experienced but no matter how great they feel they are or how little they try to make me feel, im not stopping what im doing for no one! Yesterday i didnt need them and today im continuing without them so tomorrow ill be great person.
What’s your main focus when it comes to a shoot?
-It’s to capture the clients or projects concept or ideas in a image… being able to fill up a blank screen with what they have envisioned in their mind.
What/who do you like to shoot the most?
- I love to travel and freelance; nothing more beautiful than capturing natures & humans creations… as well as i love to shoot portraiture, which involves me capturing the persons genuine personality in a photograph.
What’s the most important detail to you when it comes to a shoot?
-Make the subject which is the model feel comfortable like youve known them for years and make them smile, laugh feel amazing. Thats when you capture the most natural photographs, second to that always be prepared for the unthinkable be able to work around any situation.
Where do you see yourself in the future, 2 years from now?
-I see myself capturing amazing photographs with in time be a published photographer and growing my vision expanding the horizon.
What do you encourage?
-To continue whatever it is that you love, people will tell you, you wont become anything in life and what your doing is worth nothing. Your also going to fail; but thats what should push you to become greater! nothing is supposed to be done in a specific way, theirs no rules to being great at what you do it all comes from the heart and your dedication & passion for it. you are the soul creator of your journey in life you make it what it is, not others.
any last thoughts?
-Never stop, and live someone else’s dream… believe in yourself or no one else will.

A Day with Murs

My weekend was filled with tons of events last week. Tons of shooting, planning, emails, text messages, phone calls and driving. After reaching out to Murs via twitter and actually getting a response, I had no idea what was ahead.
When there is an opportunity for locals to get face time amongst hip-hops best or the industries brightest, I do what I can to help and this was no different. Once I found out Murs was in town, I immediately thought of my boys @ 9Five. I told them I had an idea of bringing Murs by the offices to get him some gear and sit for lil pow wow. Of course they were stoked about the idea. After a few emails, Murs and I exchange numbers and went from there. I spent about a week and a half planning the trip to 9Five but Murs had more in mind. So me, Jon @ 9Five, and Murs setup an afterparty @ Analog last minute after the HOB show just to do it. I mean why not right?
They day of the show was among us. I left work early and linked up with Murs @ HOB and we shot down to Access Music to his instore meet-n-greet. I met Mark and Adam for the first time. Access is one those places that really makes you appreciate hip-hop. We were running behind schedule but doing 90 on the 163 & 805 has its advantages. We made it to 9Five about 45 minutes before the show where Jon Mike Jay Murs and myself sat stood and talked about the industry in a nutshell. That nutshell must have exploded cause I learned some things that I had never heard before. After that it was back to HOB and a performance that blew my mind. HoB was shut down. AB-Soul and Tab-Bonney did their thing as well. We finshed the night off @ Analog with foundation killing it. For me, it was an experience that I had never experienced before. Props to Murs, Jon, Mike, Jay, Kania, and Analog for seeing that vision and supporting the ideas I had and most of all everyone reading and supporting the Rise.

Jordan loves the kids. I’m guessing since they’re only dropping these bad boys in youth sizes they might make the quality a little better. May 7th, 2011 is the day. This will be an instant copp.

Stevie Crooks x The World Is Not Enough
Stevie Crooks is the genius for my generation. Just played track one and I’m already like “maannn”. First off his last project still plays loudly in my car. When I think of (The World is Not Enough) and I look through Stevie’s photo shoots and his track titles all I can think of is class. I can’t think of anyone that does it better. No lyrics on no bullshit, his delivery murders. His creativity and his whole concept really blew me away. I actually feel like I’m insulting him by giving him the tittle of a simple “rapper”. I’m on track seven “gold finger” very very impressed. His words are printed in my brain, a lot of the things he speaks about I take with me. I was actually lucky enough to receive “dressed to kill” awhile back, let’s just say I couldn’t wait to put it up on my blog for others to hear. Now is the time! “if you was the letter after E you still couldn’t F with me” – License To Kill
As I listen to this project I can assure you that Stevie never speaks about things he doesn’t have. His focus is never bitches, money or any recent rides. He keeps it 100% genuine, he says “yall complain about how rappers dumb down, well your solution is right here. ” meaning . . it really comes down to you, what you listen to and support. He has high exceptions for himself. “I was born to soar not settle” listen for yourself.

With the tech industry going nutzo with the tablet releases it was only a matter of time before HTC got in on some of the quick money making. The iPad is currently 17% of Apple’s total profit. That’s kinda like a big deal. Peep the new HTC Flyer which runs on Android 2.4 and features a seven-inch touchscreen with 1024×600 resolution, a 1.5 GHz processor, 32 GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, 1GB of RAM, HSPA+/GSM cellular connectivity, a five megapixel rear camera with auto focus and a 1.3 megapixel front camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, and GPS..just to name a few.lol. This I can definitely see myself buying since I am a proud owner of the HTC HD2 very smartphone…Price is TBD but I’m sure they’ll price it “competitively”…
