One of the standout singles from Black Dave’s recent Black Bart mixtape receives the honorary remix treatment courtesy of MMG’s own beard gang general, Stalley. The smooth, New York-esque cut was produced by Shy Beats with verse exchanges between the two emcees that’ll serve as the perfect antidote if you’re looking for some chill vibes.
I’ve been a fan of a lot of the subs rollin’ in here as of late. This ones pretty cool. Ballad, a singer, poet and songwriter born in Luanda, Angola, now residing in Massachusetts(Don’t pick up the accent) presents us with his latest single Lost in the World off his upcoming project titled Euphoria. The single is described as, “The thoughts and frustrations that occur, when you feel your relationship crumble before your very eyes…”
Here’s something out of the norm for us at the Rise. Submitted by Canadian bred artist/producer Jonathan Lee, his latest effort titled FLYING VIOLINS features imagery for the Dolce & Gabbana collaboration was put together by New York City photographer/videographer Meagan Cignoli. Here’s a feel good joint with a westcoase feel to hit. The latest release from KJ Hines entitled I’m Sorry

With the release of Nothing With The Same this week, I still do not know where I stand with Drake. So Far Gone is quite possibly one of the best mixtapes I have ever heard but I think that is where my excitement for him as an artist plateaued. Thank Me Later eventually came and I perused it, finding some good tracks but not nearly enjoying it as much as anything from the mixtape that turned him into the super star he is today. Same goes for Take Care with Kendrick Lamar’s Buried Alive being the main reason being I downloaded it. I did check the rest of it out and it was okay I guess.
Part of these mixed feelings probably have to do with the fact Drake is just so easy to make fun of. I mean, he is a mixed Jewish Canadian, who played a paraplegic on Degrassi, rapping about love. The punchlines literally write themselves.
Just recently, he put out the video for his unorthidox track, Hold On, We’re Going Home. The song is typical Drake, crooning about love lost over a smooth production provided by his lifelong friend 40, but its not the typical rap song by any means. The track features Miami Vice reminiscent synths backing song comprised entirely of hooks and bridges. Its hard not to sing along as you think about the one that got away which is kinda depressing but watching the video entirely makes up for it.
The video tries very hard to be a mini movie but its extremely hard not to laugh hysterically for various reasons.
B) Fredo Santana plays the villain. Sure it makes sense but lets just realize that he’s dressed the same as a mobster from the 1920′s except with gold teeth and a generally even scarier aura.
C) There is a fake, cgi-filled explosion that occurs only after Wheelchair Jimmy jumps on a storage crate to clearly gain a tactical advantage on his foes.
D) Cheesy acting and story elements are everywhere. Damsel in distress? Check. Romantic kiss after she is saved? Might as well. And Fredo only got the drop on her because of a traitor in the group? Of course!
The song is good but the video is great. If it wasn’t for the ridiculousness that is this video, I probably would have never checked this out. Now comes the debate as to whether I want to check out Nothing Was The Same, or as my friends call it, Not With The Shits.
Hopefully this means we’re that much closer to Oxymoron. Coming soon… eventually… preferably before the end of the year. TDE usually releases Schoolboy’s albums around January so we shall see
Reflecting back to hip hop’s Golden Era when starting out back in the day, his life in NC and his development through the years both personally and musically, the album represents a biographical snapshot depicted openly and honestly. Success, mistakes, ambitions and the world around him as it happened, it’s all there in a no holds barred account of the reality of his life to date.
Los Angeles MC ethemadassassin released his third solo album Soul on Fire. Here’s the lead joint H.T.G

So TDE has some new inductees. First, SZA was signed a couple weeks ago as the first lady and today they bring in Isaiash Rashad. Seeing as Rashad is from Tennessee, maybe they are working to diversify the sound. I know nothing of this guy other than this song and its pretty alright. I’m sure with some development from TDE, he can have some type of impact. Lets just hope these new signees aren’t just a tax write-off
