While attending the Rock the Bells Press Conference, we caught up with the top dawg of TDE, Jay Rock. He just so happen to show up so we chopped it up for a few minutes; literally. Shouts to Richie!!! This is by far one of the most on the fly, unprepared, shortest, but most fun interviews I had…Hell, maybe too much fun as I call Ab-Soul’s Control System “Control Freak”…lol..what a Fail!!. Luckily Jay Rock came through with the clutch save…Enjoy.

Canada Denies Nipsey Hussle Entrance into Country Forces Shows to be Cancelled

After coming off very successful oversees tour Nip’s plans for Canada have been halted. According to All Money In Ent via Facebook & Nip himself via Twitter, Nipsey has been denied entry thus forcing cancellation of all Canadian dates

We worked closely with Canadian Immigration Officials and our Promoters to secure clearance for Nipsey Hussle’s entry to perform for his Canadian fans. Unfortunately approval cannot be obtained at this time, leaving us no option but to cancel the Canadian show dates. Nipsey is committed to working through this roadblock and is looking forward to one day performing for his fans in Canada, who have been supportive of him and his career.

This weekend is the 2nd annual PAID DUES HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROJECT! Last year, 25 extraordinary Paid Dues fans came together to raise the first wall on a HFH GLA home in Lynwood and this year is sure to exceed expectations. For so many years Guerilla Union has consistently unified all genres music by putting some of the most incredible shows to date. They have also been a catalyst for educating, empowering, and encouraging people on the values of helping others, teamwork, diligence, & creating opportunity. A Day with Murs

My weekend was filled with tons of events last week. Tons of shooting, planning, emails, text messages, phone calls and driving. After reaching out to Murs via twitter and actually getting a response, I had no idea what was ahead.

When there is an opportunity for locals to get face time amongst hip-hops best or the industries brightest, I do what I can to help and this was no different. Once I found out Murs was in town, I immediately thought of my boys @ 9Five. I told them I had an idea of bringing Murs by the offices to get him some gear and sit for lil pow wow. Of course they were stoked about the idea. After a few emails, Murs and I exchange numbers and went from there. I spent about a week and a half planning the trip to 9Five but Murs had more in mind. So me, Jon @ 9Five, and Murs setup an afterparty @ Analog last minute after the HOB show just to do it. I mean why not right?

They day of the show was among us. I left work early and linked up with Murs @ HOB and we shot down to Access Music to his instore meet-n-greet. I met Mark and Adam for the first time. Access is one those places that really makes you appreciate hip-hop. We were running behind schedule but doing 90 on the 163 & 805 has its advantages. We made it to 9Five about 45 minutes before the show where Jon Mike Jay Murs and myself sat stood and talked about the industry in a nutshell. That nutshell must have exploded cause I learned some things that I had never heard before. After that it was back to HOB and a performance that blew my mind. HoB was shut down. AB-Soul and Tab-Bonney did their thing as well. We finshed the night off @ Analog with foundation killing it. For me, it was an experience that I had never experienced before. Props to Murs, Jon, Mike, Jay, Kania, and Analog for seeing that vision and supporting the ideas I had and most of all everyone reading and supporting the Rise.

Risk Taker

One of the things I promised myself I’d do when I re-designed the site for the new year, was become more editorially and visually personal with the readers and followers of The Rise. And b/c of that this post is very special to me. Not b/c my 1yr old is getting his first haircut and trooped it out like a champ, but b/c it symbolizes much more…risk. Here you have a child…A baby who’s innocent yet selfish, smart but naive. Give him a few months and he’ll spell his name. Give him a few seconds and he will, without a doubt, tell where his nose, eyes, hair, socks, and pee-pee are.

There is one thing that kids his age have that most of adult ppl lack, or have to regain and that is courage and the ability to take risk. Tonight my son showed me just how much good taking a risk can help your life if you just believe in those that support you and believe in your vision. He believed that from his support staff (Daddy&Mommy), that he would be okay and that we were going to be here for him even if this complete stranger was going to be interacting with him in ways he’d never experience. Jalen instilled in me once again to take risk. I have a support staff that sees and understands my vision. I have idea’s that I want to execute. There’s nothing stopping anyone from accomplishing anything but yourself. So next time you find yourself doubting your mental from taking a chance think about that little kid n the chair. Oh Thank Heaven for 2011

In order to become a better person in life you must experience life itself. In order to experience life you must be put in positions that lead to success, failure, hardship, love, oppotunity, and most importantly education. By education, I’m not talking about our traditional learning institutions I’m talking about learning lessons. The all infamous trial & error.

My last QTR break of 2010 allowed me to realize just how much T&E I was going through. I sat and watched a lot of things transpire; and not. Ironically enough, I had always been a person who hated to “realize” because it meant my trial periods had been time wasted. Or at least that’s how I felt. I know there are people out there that follow this site and believe in this site even when we don’t. For that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also know that I need to come to terms with how things operate in life cope with change and accept the lessons I have learned. In 2011, rather than than setting resolutions, I just want to continue on the path I created for myself whenI first started RiseA07.com. Get back on my ish and do what I set out to do which is create an informative site with some cool media and up to date info while giving away some gear as a way to say thnx for your time.

This year I’m going to get a little more “day in the life” with this site. More interaction more everything. So with that said lets get to it. Love Live Life

Drake to play Jace Stratton in “Gears of War”

The fastest rising superstar in today’s hip-hop music scene is teaming up with Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games to lend his voice to the biggest blockbuster game of 2011, “Gears of War 3,” only on Xbox 360. Set to release his much-anticipated debut album, “Thank Me Later,” on June 15, Grammy-nominated recording artist Drake is voicing Jace Stratton, a new playable character in the upcoming finale to one of the most celebrated sagas in video games.

In the finale to one of gaming’s most recognizable sagas, Epic has added four player cooperative campaign gameplay, allowing them to bring characters from the extended “Gears” universe to life.

“Jace is a central character in the comic books, so he was an obvious choice as a character we wanted to bring into the third game,” said Epic Executive Producer Rod Fergusson. “When we began casting for the role, ‘So Far Gone’ had just released, and Drake’s combination of heart and grit was just what we were looking for. Rather than search for somebody who sounded like him, it was clear that we should approach him directly… fortunately he turned out to be a huge fan.”

“When Epic came to me with the role, I couldn’t pass it up,” said Drake. “They’ve created an amazing character in Jace, and I’m looking forward to my tour in Delta Squad.”

Developed by acclaimed studio Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios, “Gears of War 3” launches worldwide in April 2011, only on Xbox 360. ‘Geezer Bandit’ strikes again!!!

I know I don’t usually post things on the local section on the website, but this story in particular I had to post about.  Since last summer banks have been getting robbed by an elderly man.  Just today he robbed his ninth bank (Bank of America to be exact) in the Santee area (or Clantee some people would call it).  Supposedly the FBI are on the hunt for the old geezer hence the name “Geezer Banit”.  Now theres a $16,000 reward  of his capture, but come on its a recession put some more money up and I bet people will try to find him.  If you are really foolish to think about running up on him, think twice, because he’s rumored to be armed with a revolver.
