Every year around this time, Adult Swim has an extremely awesome event where they release thirteen singles for thirteen weeks. They can range from indie, to electro, and even hip-hop. Just this year, they have already premiered a song from Run The Jewels and will be premiering tracks from Captain Murphy and Lil B in the coming weeks. Another promising single occurs with this upcoming release. Thanks to the good folks over at Rolling Stone, we have a stream for a promising track to be released for download on Tuesday. As a little preview of what should be expected on Piñata, Freddie Gibbs floats over a trademark Madlib instrumental as Karieem Riggins adds his two cents.
Freddie Gibbs really brought gangsta rap back. Regardless of what label he is on or who he’s signed to, there has always been a sense of realism to his music. This video just further purveys that gritty/gangsta aethestic with pounds of Keisha, guns, and strippers. Hopefully before the year’s end, his collaboration with Madlib will finally be released and mix two completely different worlds.
Following the recent release of his new album ESGN, Freddie Gibbs is back today to share the new video for ESGN highlight “Lay It Down.” Filmed by Will Gates, the video documents a day in the life of residents of Freddie’s hometown Gary, Indiana. Speaking on the experience of filming on location, Will Gates said, “”When I was in Gary I didn’t know what to expect but Freddie Gibbs & the whole ESGN showed me nothing but love. I really wanted to capture Gary in its rare, gritty form and I feel Freddie allowed me to do that in ‘Lay It Down.’”
Freddie Gibbs releases visuals for “BFK.”
People smoke and brandish guns in Gary for this Baby Face Killa clip.
